Missouri Ice Hockey

New Officials Registration Information 10-11 Season

Registration / Certification in the USA Hockey Officiating Program is a multi-step process as outlined below
  1. Click here to register with USA Hockey as an on ice official.  There is a fee associated with this
registration.  This registration web site opens in early August  and closes in May of the following year.

  • New officials will generally register for Level 1 and must attend a level 1 seminar.  Exceptions to this
can only be made by the USAH District Referee-In-Chief and will only be for application as a level 2.
Please do not register for anything until you get an answer on an exception request.

  • Usually within 24 hours of online registration with USAH, you will get an email from USAH with
information about your online open book rules exam that you will be required to take

  • Between 48 and 72 hours of online registration with USAH, a packet will be USPS mailed to you with
the current edition of the playing rules and other administrative information.

  • You may take the open book exam at your leisure, but it is highly recommended that you wait until after
you attend your seminar to take the online exam

2.  You should register with MIHOA to attend a USA Hockey Officiating Program Seminar.

  • You can not complete your certification as an on ice official without attending a seminar

  • You must pay a fee to register and attend a seminar.  Level 1 is $33.00 and Level 2 is $43.00

  • You must attend the entire classroom portion and participate in the on ice instruction to get credit for
    attending the seminar

3.  If you are 18 years of age or older on July 1, 2010, you must have a background check done.

  • Background screening information and process instructions can be found here.

  • There is a fee associated with the background screening process

  • Your name must appear on the background screening results page in order to complete the
certification process and be able to work games as an on ice official
Additional Important Information

Certification is a yearly process and must be repeated each and every season
that you want to officiate USA Hockey sanctioned games
It is YOUR responsibility to contact each appropriate scheduler and introduce
yourself as a new official who is looking to start officiating hockey games.
Be honest about your experience and ability.  There is no faster way to a short
officiating career than working games beyond your ability.
Keep a record of all games that you work.  This helps you see your true level of
experience and also helps keep track of game fees.
MIHOA pays about the 15th of the month for all games worked the previous
calendar month
The most important thing is to continue to use your officiating manuals and
rulebook to stay on top of procedures and the playing rules
Anytime your have questions, you may contact the USA Hockey Local
Supervisors of Officials
